Igniting Innovation: A Captivating Start to Community Futures Week at FireRein

Community Futures Week commenced with a dynamic kickoff at FireRein, a cutting-edge cleantech company situated in rural Ontario. 

FireRein Overview: Founded by firefighters, FireRein is on a mission to eliminate the use of firefighting foams containing harmful substances like PFAS. The company is committed to providing a safe firefighting solution with their certified 100% bio-based product, Eco-Gel™.

Facility Tour: Attendees were treated to a comprehensive tour of the FireRein facility, gaining insights into the company's innovative processes and commitment to environmental sustainability.

Product Demonstration: A highlight of the event was a live demonstration of Eco-Gel™, showcasing its effectiveness in suppressing A and B class fires. The product's unique features include easy washability and the ability to be disposed of as food waste, contributing to its environmentally benign nature.

Round Table Discussions: Engaging round table discussions provided a platform for meaningful conversations among attendees. The FireRein team, led by Quincy Emmons (President & Co-Founder), Peter Sells (Vice President, Chief Fire Training Officer), Dr. David Hyndman (Chief Science Officer), and Sean Beek (Marketing and Design Specialist), shared valuable insights.

Distinguished Attendees: Along with Community Futures staff, the event saw the presence of notable individuals, including Paulette Prentice (Deputy General, FedDev Ontario), Mat Langer (Manager, FedDev Ontario), Cher Powers (Manager, OCI), Shelby Kramp Neuman (MP — Hastings-Lennox and Addington, Associate Shadow Minister for National Defence), and Paul McAuley (Board Member, Community Futures Prince Edward Lennox Addington).

Community Futures Week Purpose: This kickoff event marked the beginning of Community Futures Week, a celebration organized by Community Futures Eastern Ontario. The week is dedicated to promoting entrepreneurship, small business development, and economic opportunities in the Eastern Ontario region. With a blend of virtual and in-person events scheduled from March 4th to 10th, 2024, the initiative aims to empower and inspire communities across the region.
