There’s something special about bringing people together who share the same mission, helping entrepreneurs thrive. That spirit filled the room at Calabogie Peaks Resort this September, where loan managers and administrators from Community Futures offices across Eastern Ontario gathered for the 2025 Loan Managers & Administrators Conference.
Hosted by Community Futures Eastern Ontario (CFEO) in partnership with Renfrew County CFDC, the annual event was a dynamic mix of professional development, networking, and fresh perspectives, all grounded in one goal: strengthening how we serve small businesses and communities across the region.

A Space to Learn, Reflect, and Recharge
Participants learned about the changing environment of community lending over the course of two days, including topics such as mental health awareness and ethical decision-making, as well as new tools, technology, and client success stories that inspired everyone in attendance.
Sessions sparked conversation around AI innovation, responsible lending, and creative collaboration. Speakers from organizations such as BDC, Growth Wheel, ACCFutures, and Opening Minds brought thought-provoking insights that challenged attendees to think differently about their roles and the future of lending.

CF Show & Share: New This Year
The real power of the conference came from the people in the room. The CF Show & Share segment once again proved that the best ideas often come from peers, with offices trading tools, tactics, and real-world examples of what’s working in their communities.

Real Stories, Real Impact
Earlier in the conference, CFEO’s Michelle Cathers shared updates on the SOFII TradeFWD initiative, a targeted lending program helping innovative, growth-minded businesses scale and expand into new markets. Her presentation set the stage perfectly for what came next.
One of the most memorable moments came from the client spotlights, hearing directly from entrepreneurs whose businesses have been supported through the Community Futures network. After welcoming Renfrew County CFDC client Jeff Black — who sparked an insightful discussion around the challenges of exportation and navigating different countries' regulatory processes - we heard from SOFII client Mike McNaught of RVezy, who shared how his company went from a local idea to a national success story.
Their experiences served as a powerful reminder of the significance of Community Futures' work, the ongoing ripple effect of every loan, every conversation, and every bit of support that helps a business move forward.

Building Stronger Futures Together
Attendees left feeling energized and connected, and their feedback reflected that:
- “Inspiring to hear what other CFDCs are doing. It reminds us that we’re part of something bigger.”
- “The mental health session was eye-opening and much needed in our line of work.”
- “I walked away with new ideas I can use right away in my office.”
From mental health awareness to peer-driven collaboration, this year’s conference reinforced the importance of community within the Community Futures network.
As one participant summed it up perfectly: “We’re not just managing loans — we’re helping shape stronger, more resilient communities.”

Looking Ahead
CFEO extends a heartfelt thank-you to everyone who contributed, from speakers and organizers to every loan manager and administrator who shared their insights, laughter, and experience. The ideas exchanged during the 2025 Loans Managers and Administrators Conference will continue to ripple across Eastern Ontario long after the conference wraps.
